Upper Elementary
The youngest students, ages 4 to 40 months, experience school as an extension of home. The “Little House” building adjacent to the main building on the Harborlight campus is uniquely designed to partner with parents and nurture their child’s development. In this rich learning environment, Montessori teachers prepare activities and guide children through their experiences in all areas of the curriculum. The work of the child at this age is peaceful, joyful, and purposeful.
Our children’s house schedule offers long-blocks of concentrated academic time for Pre-K and Kindergarten students to work at their own pace through the Montessori curriculum. Teachers carefully design a comfortable and calm classroom with the structure, order, and freedom that allows children to move, touch, create, discover, and question. Individualized instruction is emphasized at this developmental age, group collaboration and cooperative learning are encouraged, and children often engage in spontaneous, small-group work.
Older children come to Upper Elementary with a mastery of basic skills for learning and living. During these three years of development, they build an internalized understanding of complex concepts through engaging classroom lessons, real-life application, and problem-solving skills. A Harborlight education challenges the pre- adolescent child to grow their knowledge and knowhow across every academic discipline.

UPPER SCHOOL
Our youngest students experience school as an extension of home. The "Little House" building adjacent to the man building on campus is uniquely designed to partner with families to nurture their child's development. Learning extends to the playground and gardens where play takes the child's curiosity and interest into nature. The work of the child at this age is peaceful, joyful, and purposeful.
For grades PK-3, we are known for our child-centered approach, small class-size, and deeply rooted relationships with teachers. Through hands-on learning, students engage with materials to explore big concepts, problem-solve, and master academic skills. The emphasis on nurturing social-emotional growth, respect for others, and individual instruction ensures each child feels valued, supported, and successful.
Our academic program deepens across the upper elementary grades and moves learning beyond the walls of the classroom. This integrated curriculum is uniquely designed to appeal to students' interests, invite curiosity, and develop competency. Students develop essential habits to organize their work and manage time effectively. Together, they contribute to a supportive, inclusive, and respectful community that values individual ideas and shared learning.
